There are so many great resources about learning lettering out there but where do you even start? What should you learn and when? This is especially tough when you still don’t have a lot of money to invest in your craft.
This curriculum is designed to help you find your way in this vast world of lettering and give you at least a general direction on how to become a lettering artist. It’s pretty hard learning on your own and you feel pretty lost most of the time (I know, because I’ve been there!) The resources are easy to find but what to look for in each stage of your lettering journey is another matter.
Through the years I have been going back and forth, learning one thing than jumping on the next but I always felt there was this gap somewhere in there and my confidence paid the price for that. I was never certain I knew what I needed to know because my self-education has been so scattered that I can’t say I didn’t skip something vital.
So fellow letterers, I created this curriculum to serve as a guide to you, the guide I wish I had when I just started out. And keep in mind that this is just a guide, not a set of rules. Adapt it to your own journey and find your own resources and inspirations. That’s what makes this journey fun! And most importantly, allow yourself to be an amateur. Any skill takes time to develop and mistakes are part of learning. The more you make, the better you’ll become.
